Arm Lift in Pasadena, CA

An arm lift, also known as a brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure removing loose and excess fat deposits in the underarms. With the combined effects of aging, fluctuations in weight, and a loss of skin elasticity, both men and women can lose skin tone resulting in a flabby appearance in this region. Often, this fat is unresponsive to diet and exercise.

HOW IS BRACHIOPLASTY PERFORMED?

Brachioplasty surgery can markedly improve the appearance of your upper arms. Excess skin and fat from the armpit to the elbow is removed, and the skin is then draped back over the newly repositioned contours, creating a more toned look. The arm lift begins by marking the area of excess skin. Because the skin is very mobile in the upper arm it is usually not necessary to undermine extensively. Some fat is left over the nerves and arteries for their protection, and in some cases Dr. Taylor may suggest that liposuction be performed either alone or in conjunction with the arm lift to remove excess fat in the upper arms in order to provide a smoother result.

After the fat and skin are removed, the wound is stitched together. Dr. Taylor ensures that your incision will be placed in the most inconspicuous place, usually on the inner arm towards the back. The surgery itself generally takes two to three hours, usually done on an outpatient basis under a general anesthesia or a local with sedation.

Before you undergo your procedure, you will consult with Dr. Taylor to discuss any concerns, your expectations for the procedure, and the costs associated with arm lift surgery.

Is an Arm Lift Surgery Right for Me?

If the undersides of your upper arms are sagging, you are likely an ideal candidate for arm lift surgery. An arm lift may also boost your body image. Along with an improved cosmetic appearance, many patients find they experience increased self-esteem and confidence as a result of their surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions About Brachioplasty

  • Am I a good candidate for an arm lift?

The right candidate for an arm lift:

    • Has sagging skin and fat in the upper arms
    • Is in generally good health
    • Is a non-smoker or is willing to stop smoking before and after the procedure
    • Can maintain realistic expectations for the results
  • Does an arm lift leave scars?

Yes, all surgeries require incisions, which leave scars. However, the incisions for arm lifts are strategically placed, so they are easier to conceal. Over time, your scars will fade and become less noticeable. You can also buy scar fading creams to speed up this process.

  • How long is recovery from an arm lift procedure?

Immediately after your recovery, you may need to wear a compression garment to help with the healing process. You can return to work within one to two weeks of the procedure. Most patients can return to their exercise routine a month post-operation. Full recovery takes most patients between four to six weeks.

  • Is arm lift recovery painful?

Most patients experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising during the first week of their recovery. Dr. Taylor will prescribe you pain medication to manage any discomfort. Additionally, you will want to use pillows to keep your arms elevated and wear loose clothing while you heal.

  • When will I see the results of my arm lift?

Immediately after your surgery, you will experience some bruising and swelling. When this bruising and swelling subsides, you should be able to see the results of your procedure. You will have visibly smaller and firmer arms.

  • Can I combine another procedure with my arm lift?

It is quite common for individuals to combine plastic surgery procedures to save on costs and combine recovery periods. Many patients combine their arm lift with other surgeries, such as liposuction, a breast lift, or a tummy tuck. If you are interested in combining procedures, mention this to your doctor during the consultation. He will be able to tell you if your desired combination is safe.

  • How long will the results of my arm lift last?

An arm lift can offer permanent results, as long as you don’t gain or lose a significant amount of weight. Additionally, your body will go through the normal aging process, which may impact results slightly.
