BOTOX® Cosmetic

Did you know that there are a total of 43 muscles in your face?

When you combine frequent movements between all of these muscles and other factors such as sun exposure or toxins in our makeup, our skin can go through quite a bit of stress. Over time, these stressors can wear on our skin, causing us to lose skin elasticity and develop facial wrinkles and lines. BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the quickest and easiest ways to remedy these lines and restore elasticity.

What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injectable made from the cosmetic form of botulinum toxin. When injected into the muscle, this substance can temporarily reduce or eliminate lines and wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic works to reduce and prevent wrinkles by addressing the root source of facial lines and wrinkles. The injection works by blocking nerve signals in the muscle, which makes the muscle unable to contract and the wrinkles unable to form.

Am I a Good Candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic?

You are a good candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic if you would like to:

  • Smooth crows feet, forehead furrows, and other unwanted lines
  • Reduce wrinkles
  • Elevate the corners of the mouth

Lift skin around the neck and jawline

What Does the Procedure Entail?

The BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure takes an average of 15 minutes. A thin needle is carefully inserted into specific facial muscles, and small amounts of the botulinum toxin treatment are injected. The muscles that receive the injection are those that produce wrinkles and lines. Patients don’t typically experience severe discomfort during the procedure.

A topical anesthesia may be applied before the procedure. The number of injections needed depends on the size and number of areas being treated. Patients may need to adjust their intake of certain medications in order to reduce the risk of bleeding or bruising.

What Is Recovery Like?

Because BOTOX® Cosmetic has a fairly non-invasive procedure, there is little to no recovery or downtime needed. Following the procedure there should only be minimal soreness, there may also be minimal redness and bruising around the injection. Patients should be able to return to regular activities immediately. However, patients should be cautious not to rub or massage the treated areas in order to avoid the injections migrating to other areas of the face.

What Are the Results of BOTOX® Cosmetic Like?

Following the procedure, the results will continue to develop over the first two to three days. The severity of correction being done can also affect the outcome of the results. BOTOX® Cosmetic can tighten skin; however, it cannot remove excess or loose skin. In order to maintain natural results, a facelift may be more appropriate for dramatic changes. Results for BOTOX® Cosmetic are not permanent and should last three to four months. In order to maintain long term results, the patient will need to undergo follow up injection periodically.
