If unwanted fat deposits on the abdomen are causing you frustration,
tummy tuck surgery (“abdominoplasty”) may be the answer to your problem.
Unlike other procedures, a tummy tuck does not ensure massive weight
loss; instead, it addresses the excess fat on the midsection, in addition
to sagging skin and stretched-out muscles, to tone and firm the abdomen.
However, a tummy tuck is a major surgery. Those who are considering
undergoing the procedure should be aware that while it can dramatically
reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen, it also results in a
permanent scar that extends from hip to hip. The good news is that said
scar can be easily camouflaged by clothing, even a low-cut bikini; and
because the procedure is so effective, it’s likely that patients will
want to wear one!
Who is a Candidate for Tummy Tuck Surgery?
As a seasoned Los Angeles tummy tuck surgeon, Dr. Taylor has observed
that the best candidates for abdominoplasty are healthy adults in relatively
good shape. More specifically, the surgery is particularly helpful to:
- Women seeking to obtain their pre-childbirth figures
- Men who aim to eliminate a protruding, “beer belly” appearance
- Those who wish to eliminate loose, hanging skin following massive weight
loss
Those who intend to lose large amounts of weight should do so prior
to tummy tuck surgery; and, women should be certain they do not wish
to become pregnant again following the procedure (to ensure the longevity
of the surgical results and the safety of any future pregnancies).

What happens during tummy tuck surgery?
Our Pasadena cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Taylor, follows the following process
during tummy tuck surgery:
- Removal of excess fat
- Reduction of hanging stomach skin
- Tightening of abdominal wall muscles
- Redraping of the skin
The procedure normally lasts between two and five hours, depending on
the extent of work required. Partial abdominoplasty (“mini tummy tuck”),
which concentrates solely on the area beneath the navel, may take approximately
one hour. Following tummy tuck recovery (two to four weeks), most patients
enjoy a slimmer, more toned abdomen.
To learn more regarding your candidacy, we invite you to schedule a
consultation with Dr. Taylor. Our Los Angeles tummy tuck surgeon will
be glad to speak with you.
